Rachel Douglas Recipient of Two Hardeman County Area Scholarships

Bolivar Central High School Class of 2024 graduate Rachel Elizabeth Douglas was the recipient of the Hardeman County Arts Council (HCAC) Scholarship and the St. James Episcopal Scholarship for 2024. Both scholarships are open to graduating Hardeman County high school seniors who meet the requested requirements to qualify.

Rachel was required to submit a written piece for both scholarships.

HCAC Scholarship: A 500word response stating “Why you should be selected for the HCAC Scholarship in relation to a major or minor in the arts and/or related fields, and your future plans”

St. James Episcopal Church Scholarship: “The importance of character as well as your scholarship, leadership, and financial need”

Rachel received $500 from the HCAC and $1,000 from St. James Episcopal Church. The St. James Episcopal Church scholarship, previously established, was renamed in memory of Charles P. Brown, who is remembered by the church congregation as a beloved and highly esteemed educator from Hardeman County, an active and devoted member of St. James Episcopal Church, and a man of exemplary character. 

Earlier this year, Rachel was recognized as a Top 10 Student at Bolivar Central High School and by her peers as a Bolivar Central High School Who’s Who Senior of the Class of 2024. While a student at BCHS, Rachel participated in several on campus activities that included Beta Club, Senior Class Vice-President, Art Club, ACT Club 21, Yearbook/Journalism, Honor Roll, History Club, Future Business Leaders of America (president), African American Youth Leadership Summit, Future Teachers of America, and Girls Who Code Club. She plans to attend the University of Memphis, majoring in management information systems and minoring in film and video production. Rachel aspires to be a director.
