Red Cross Arrives in Middleton, Welcoming Community Members

American Red Cross volunteers arrived at the Middleton Warming Center on Thursday, January 29, 2026, trained and prepared to help their neighbors through Winter Storm Fern.
The Red Cross reported that on the night of January 30, the Middleton Community Center provided seven overnight stays. Even so, the facility continues to be widely used as a warming space and place of comfort, welcoming community members throughout the day for meals and respite.

“There are over 150 disaster-trained volunteers on the ground in Tennessee, delivering critical assistance to people forced from their homes by the winter storm. Our teams will remain in place as long as they’re needed,” said Jerrica L. Williams, Regional Communications Director for the Red Cross. “Sheltering needs remain persistent, driven by prolonged outages and sustained cold temperatures.”
The warming center is located at the Middleton Community Center on South Main Street and is open 24 hours a day, as long as there’s a need.

The American Red Cross mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. They provide 24/7 emergency assistance, disaster relief, blood supply, and support for military families.
