Representative Shaw Holds Street Fest to Meet Citizens

Tennessee State Representative Johnny Shaw held a Street Fest on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Courthouse Square in Downtown Bolivar. It was a form of a meet and greet as well as an opportunity to promote unity in the community.

“There has been a lot of division in elections in late years, not so much in mine. I thought just bringing people together would be a good idea, shake hands, laugh and talk, listen to some music, and kind of ease their mind,” said Representative Shaw, who shared this will be his last term running having also served the county for 10 years as a commissioner. “I am finishing 24 years this year, and if I do another tern, which I plan to, it will be 26 years in State Legislature”

The event, which brought many from inside and out of the 80th District, was free and included music and food. Representative Shaw took the time to meet and speak with citizens and answer questions.

“I enjoy serving people. I think what I really get a lot of enjoyment out of is when I can take time to sit down and talk to constituents and educate them about what I do,” said Shaw. “Because one of the things I have discovered over the year is I very seldom talk to anyone who really knows what I really do. Most time, they think they know and then when we sit down and talk about it. I always say I don’t break laws, I make laws.”
