Retired Teachers Present School Supplies at Bolivar Elementary School

Bolivar Elementary School (BES) third grade students received a gift of school supplies from the Hardeman County Retired Teachers Association (HCRTA) organization. HCRTA President Fredell Harris along with other members hand delivered the supplies to the school and teachers who were appreciative of the donation.

“This year, we’re doing the third grade in particular, because that’s the grade where the state test is really going to affect the students,” said HCRTA member Pat Crisp who retired from the Hardeman County Schools after 40 years. “We donated to Bolivar Elementary School first, because it is so big. Before the school year is over, we will make donations to all the elementary schools.”

Currently, there are 45 members in the HCRTA and membership in the organization is open to any retired teacher who lives in the county, whether they worked those years in Hardeman County or not. Members of the organization meet bi-monthly. Presenters at those meetings are invited to discuss current issues involving our communities. Members also volunteer for different activities in the schools, serve as proctors during the state tests, and donate needed supplies to the local schools.

“We are going to start collecting more supplies in March, because the state test is in April,” said Crisp who noted the supplies are purchased by the HCRTA. “We want the students to have what they need for the tests.”

Bolivar Elementary School Assistance Principal expressed his appreciation for the donation.

“On behalf of Bolivar Elementary School, we would like to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The donation was greatly appreciated. Our students benefited immensely, and we are certainly grateful,” said BES Assistant Principal Shobek Dethrow.

The Hardeman County Retired Teachers meet bi-monthly, and are also members of the Tennessee Retired Teachers and the National Retired Teachers Association.
