State Representative Ron Gant, R-Piperton, announced $882,000 in state funds have been secured for sidewalk improvements along a portion of State Route 76 in downtown Somerville.

The Multimodal Access Grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will be used for sidewalks, pedestrian crossing improvements, lighting, and other accessibility enhancements along the state route between Market Street and North Street.

“It is important to provide a variety of transportation options for visitors to downtown Somerville,” Gant said. “This grant will improve connectivity and safety for countless pedestrians in this busy area. I appreciate TDOT’s continued partnership along with all of those involved in securing this significant investment for our community.”

A total of 12 Multimodal Access Grants totaling $12.5 million were awarded statewide. The funds will be used to support the transportation needs of pedestrians, bicyclists and transit users through infrastructure projects along state routes in Tennessee.
