Sassafras Farms: A Homestead Oasis Nestled in Toone, Tennessee

Sassafras Farms: A Hidden Treasure of Wellness and Wonder in Toone, Tennessee

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Toone, Tennessee, Sassafras Farms is easy to miss—but impossible to forget. As visitors pass through its gates, they are welcomed by a serene landscape, a sense of calm, and the unmistakable charm of a space designed to heal, inspire, and reconnect.

“Sassafras Farms is more than just a working family farm—it’s a homestead oasis,” says Dr. Gisele Goff, MD, MBA, the visionary founder and operator. “It offers seasonal produce, luxury lodging, an event center, boutique shopping, fishing, farm animals, and so much more. But most importantly, it offers a V.I.B.E.—a feeling, an energy, an aura. You can’t capture it in pictures. You have to come feel it for yourself.”

A self-proclaimed “city girl” from Memphis, Dr. G (as she is affectionately known) took a leap of faith four years ago when she traded the urban hustle for the peace of the countryside. Her mission was clear: to create a space rooted in sustainable living and holistic health, where guests could nurture body, mind, and spirit while reconnecting with the land—and with each other.

A Vision Brought to Life

When Dr. G first discovered the land that would become Sassafras Farms, the property was in disrepair. Today, thanks to her vision, determination, and support from her life partner, W. Bizel, the farm has been beautifully restored. The barn is now a stunning event venue. The guesthouse has been remodeled into a luxurious retreat space, and the property now offers new features like a koi pond, a gazebo overlooking Sassafras Lake, and other curated gathering spaces that bring a refined charm to this rustic haven.

The farm is now home to a lively menagerie of chickens, turkeys, ducks, guinea fowl, goats, and even peacocks—all introduced by Dr. G to foster a full farm experience for her family and guests. An orchard and beehives, added in recent years, further support the farm’s commitment to sustainability.

“Every inch of the farm has been intentionally designed,” Dr. G explains. “The spaces are minimally disturbed so families and friends can experience the raw beauty of nature. Many areas are named in honor of my family members—it’s a place where legacy and land come together.”

Experiences Rooted in Wellness and Community

Sassafras Farms offers a wide range of immersive experiences for guests. Visitors can enjoy yoga classes, attend exclusive events, and even participate in a virtual book club designed to connect the Sassafras community far and wide. Seasonal vegetables—like okra, greens, and purple hull peas—are grown on-site, with plans to expand offerings as the farm footprint evolves.

The 18-acre property is perfectly suited for everything from intimate retreats to large celebrations. The Sassafras Farm Guesthouse features two suites—Suite Shelby and Jay’s Juke Joint—each offering two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, a living area, and a private patio. A shared gym is also present. Guests can book either suite or the full house. Other amenities onsite include a commercial kitchen, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, hot tub, infrared sauna, and a fireplace flanked by cascading waterfalls.

Whether planning a wedding, corporate retreat, family reunion, or simply looking for a restorative escape, Sassafras Farms offers the perfect blend of luxury, authenticity, and soul.

A Heart for the Community

For Dr. G, Sassafras Farms is not just a personal sanctuary—it’s a community asset. She has found a warm and welcoming home in Hardeman County and is passionate about giving back.

“The people here are kind, generous, and deeply rooted in community,” she says. “It’s been a blessing, especially as a first-time farm owner.”

As the farm grows, Dr. G is calling on others to join the journey. Sassafras Farms is currently seeking volunteers and part-time team members to help continue its vision. From agriculture to event support, there are opportunities to be a part of something special.
