Senator Walley Highlights the Importance of State Grants in Our District

By State Senator Page Walley
June 21, 2024

Our Senate District is home to eight amazing counties. We are blessed to live in such a wonderful part of our state. I am grateful to the many state departments that work to make sure that communities are provided for throughout the year, especially those communities in our rural counties. This year, our district has received immense support in the form of grants for many different areas of need.

These grants showcase the importance of community investments which are critical for job development and infrastructure. Each grant will positively impact many citizens’ lives. That is why it is important to work with the Governor’s administration to invest resources into our community.

This week, I am excited to announce the Department of Economic and Community Development has released the recipients of their Site Development Grant program. Recipients in Senate District 26 include:

● City of Bolivar – Hardeman County Industrial Park, $700,000 for building rehabilitation

● Lawrence County Joint Economic and Community Development Board – Lawrenceburg Industrial Park, $4,500,000 for Water, sewer, natural gas, and electrical infrastructure, and property purchase

● Selmer McNairy County Industrial Development Board – Selmer Industrial Park North,
$500,000 for engineering studies

Our district received $5.7 million out of $17 million available in grant funds. While this latest grant release impacts three of our eight counties, each county in our district has received grant funds from the various state departments this year. Listed below are some highlights of grants received in our counties thus far.

Chester County: $8,184,412.66

Fayette County: $11,774,051.36

Hardeman County: $11,074,282.80

Hardin County: $12,006,593.19

Haywood County: $14,674,747.36

Lawrence County: $8,420,796.00

McNairy County: $1,509,632.10

Wayne County: $11,054,009.77

These totals do not reflect investments made in our 2024-2025 budget which I will highlight in the coming week. County totals reflect grants from the Tennessee Arts Commission, the Tennessee Secretary of State’s office and the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development which oversees the Historic Development Grant program, the Site Development Grant program, and numerous grants programs centered around broadband expansion.

Of the $5.7 million in Historic Development Grants awarded throughout the state, the district received $1.12 million. Additionally, the district was awarded $37.4 million to expand broadband through the numerous broadband grant programs.

I will continue my frequent visits across our district to provide for any constituent and community needs as well as beginning to think about our 2025 legislative agenda for District 26. I am so grateful to serve as our state senator and never take it for granted. Please contact my office if I can be of assistance to you at (615) 741-2368 or sen.page.walley@capitol.tn.gov.
