Senator Walley: Pray 4 Tennessee

By State Senator Page Walley

In this election season, it is important that we remember to pray over our state and uphold principles of civility. This week will mark the end of the month-long tour across Tennessee by my colleague State Representative Monte Fritts and his wife Denice who are sharing publicly House Joint Resolution 803 (www.Pray4TN.us): urging our state to seek God’s Hand of mercy and healing upon our state. I am co-sponsor of the bipartisan resolution which, following the example of our Nation’s leaders like John Adams and Abraham Lincoln, encourages our people during the month of July 2024 to examine ourselves, and appeal to Almighty God for His favor over Tennessee.

I had the privilege of participating with many of you as the resolution was read in each county across our district. Please continue to pray for Tennessee and our fellow Tennesseans even beyond July 31. Particularly, be prayerful over our school personnel and students as our school year begins this coming week.

We live in a nation where forces seek to divide us. We seem to have lost our way in how to disagree without being disagreeable, to show respect for others, and to be civil instead of condescending and condemning. We can and should have spirited and free debate but without the demonization of our opponent. We should realize that every person is “going through something” and that a gentle answer still turns away wrath.

I will continue to examine myself in a better effort to be a good senator for our citizens. I know our people are good and also know that we can be better in how we care for and respect one another and move our district forward.

If I can be of any support or assistance to you or your family, please reach out to me at (615) 741-2368 or sen.page.walley@capitol.tn.gov.
