Senator Walley Recognized for His Role in Adding “Send Me” to State Motto

Senator Walley was recognized at the 2023 Living Sent Ministries: Jesus Works Here Dinner on the campus of Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.

State Senator Page Walley was recognized at the 2023 Living Sent Ministries: Jesus Works Here Dinner on the campus of Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville for his role in adding “Send Me” as a new official Tennessee State Motto.

“Send Me” is a reference to the Scripture verse Isaiah 6:8, which states, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. Send me!””

Senator Walley shared, “A constituent from our District, Leann Derryberry of Lawrence County, researched with her children about the State Motto (Agriculture, Commerce). They thought it did not fully capture the spirit of the Volunteer State and our rich history of voluntarily responding in times of war or natural disaster to meet the needs. She suggested “Send Me” as an additional motto. I believed she was exactly right.”

In this year’s legislative session, Senate Bill 0810, which was sponsored by Senator Page Walley (R-Savannah-District 26) in the Senate and House Bill 0047, which was sponsored by Representative Clay Doggett (R-Pulaski-District 70) in the House amended Tennessee Code Section 4-1-315 by adding the additional state motto “Send Me.”

The state of Tennessee’s mottos are now “Agriculture and Commerce,” taken from the wording used on the state seal since 1801, and “Send Me”.
