Sheriff’s Department Loses Chief Deputy to Somerville Police Department

The Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department has lost its chief deputy to the Somerville Police Department. Chief Greg Moore, who served with the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department since 2010, accepted a new position, chief of police, with the Town of Somerville last month.

The Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department is sad to see him go, but excited for his new opportunities in law enforcement.

“We wish him the best and we’re going to miss him at the Sheriff’s Department,” said Sheriff Doolen.

Chief Moore was voted in at a special called meeting for the Town of Somerville on April 19, 2023. Only one item was on the agenda, hiring a new police chief, after previous Somerville Police Chief David Webb resigned on March 7, 2023. Seventy candidates submitted applications for the position. It was narrowed down to the top three applicants, who were interviewed by the Town of Somerville Mayor, each Alderman, and the City Administrator, prior to the special called meeting. During the meeting, Greg Moore was the first candidate to be nominated for the position. He was then unanimously voted in by the alderman. Chief Moore began his new position as the Somerville Police Chief on Monday, May 1, 2023.
