Simply Addicted Boutique Opens in ‘Perfect Spot’, Historic Bolivar Location

Simply Addicted Boutique, a family-owned and operated women’s dress shop in Bolivar, opened its door on Thursday, July 3, 2025, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. From a corner on Courthouse Square, which use to send gentlemen out the door looking spiffy with a brand-new haircut, women can now leave through the door looking stylish and chic.
Kandis Stephens, owner of Simply Addicted Boutique, shared the vision of the business.
“We strive to make sure everything is affordable, which can be a little addicting,” said Kandis. “We have women’s clothing and jewelry and accessories, and jewelry for little girls.”
Kandis and her husband, Shawn Stephens, moved their family five years ago to Haywood County, Tennessee, from Michigan where she owned a boutique for six years. Once the family moved to Tennessee, continuing the boutique business took a back seat to their busy family life with four sons, who range in age from nine to 16. Their participation in travel sports, and Shawn’s involvement volunteering as an AAU basketball coach, and working with several soccer teams became their life. Shawn also owns S & K Services which does remodeling, repairs, and maintenance services.
“My husband came home one day, and said, ‘I’ve found the perfect spot’, I was like ‘what are you talking about?’,” said Kandis.
The perfect spot he found was 100 Warren Street in Bolivar, which has been familiarly known for the past 67 years as Danny’s [Cheshier] Barber Shop. The building has history before Mr. Cheshier opened his business, which includes a barber shop owned by Percy Lax, an insurance company owned by Bill Tennyson, and before that as the Bank of Bolivar.

Kandis admits to being nervous about the venture, but that subsided once she visited the community.
“Once we got down here and I met some of the people, I was a little less nervous, because they were so very welcoming,” said Kandis.
Shawn, who has completed restoration projects at the Columns in Bolivar and will soon be working on the Presbyterian Church, has transformed the inside of 100 Warren Street. His sons also assisted with the demolition and rebuild. Although Danny’s signature barber chair is no longer visible when you walk through the door, there is homage to the history of the space with placards on the wall and the original hardwood floors from the bank.

“We tore all of the flooring out [from the barber shop] and refinished the original floors from the bank. This wood floor is the original from 1880. We had to take all the stuff out from the barber shop; all the mirrors, the sinks, and the plumbing. We had to get it back to bare walls,” shared Mr. Stephens taking a deep breath as if he were reliving the renovation experience. “We had to run new electric, because obviously it was very old. I built all the racks and everything else.”
Of all the renovation work he completed, Mr. Stephens is most proud of the floor.
“It is hard to find 200-year-old floors that are in good enough shape and that you can keep. It is the work I did on the floors of which I am most proud of.”
Kandis is excited about bringing the business to Hardeman County and happy to give a nod to “Mr. Danny”.
“He [Danny Cheshier] has been here for so long and it was a huge achievement. I never personally met him, but my husband did. I just thought it would be a nice, ‘thank you’,” said Kandis, who also thanks the community for welcoming her family in the “perfect spot!
