Star, Inc. Presents Award Winning Comedy Show
Putting on a theatrical production is hard enough, and even harder when nothing seems to go right as it does not in Star, Inc.’s production of The Play That Goes Wrong. The audience gets to sit back and watch as everything comes together (or falls apart) in this production that has been deemed “Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, this Olivier Award–winning comedy is a global phenomenon that’s guaranteed to leave you aching with laughter!”
It is the opening night of the Cornley University Drama Society’s newest production, The Murder at Haversham Manor, and things are not going as planned. It does not help that the cast of The Murder at Haversham Manor includes “an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines).” Fortunately for the audience of Star, Inc., the cast in this production are seasoned actors who bring this comical production to life in a skillful and talented manner.
The cast includes Perri Balentine, Bill Burns, Luke Ginter, Halle Jordan, Luke Kutz, Jeremiah Miller, Abigail Richards, Samantha Searcy, Erin Stanifer, Autumn Taylor, Dylan Taylor, Nathan Trout, Jayden Walker, and R.J. Wetherbee. That is an eight-person cast with six stage crew members who are also part of the show. Many people in the cast and crew have appeared in previous Star, Inc. productions, which has made directing the play an easier experience for Thomas Farmer, who is the director.
“Everyone takes direction really well and understands the comedy style of the show, which made it very easy to tweak. Most of the cast has been extremely helpful in putting the set and props together also,” said Farmer. “This will be my first play that I’ve directed, but my second show. I previously directed Broadway Nights (a musical). This is by far one of the most complex shows you can put on, but I think it will be completely worth it. For a while I thought I bit off more than I could chew directing this, but it’s turned out to be incredible!”
We asked Farmer to share some of the story without giving anything away, and he shared enough to peak our interest to attend the show.
“More than anything, you will laugh till you cry. Without saying too much, I love the scene at the end of act 1 most,” said Farmer.
So, you will have to attend the production to see his favorite scene as well as the entire show.
The Play That Goes Wrong will be presented at The Fair Theatre Friday, May 5 and 12 at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 6 and 13 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 7 and May 14 at 2 p.m. You may purchase tickets online or at the Star, Inc. box office one hour before each performance.
