State Representative Ron Gant Receives ‘Defender of Limited Government’ Award

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – State Representative Ron Gant, R-Piperton, has been named a recipient of the Defender of Limited Government Award by the Institute of Legislative Analysis (ILA).

During the 2023 legislative session, Gant voted in favor of limited government policies more than 80 percent of the time, according to an analysis of votes by the nonpartisan organization. The rating was among the highest scores given to any member of the Tennessee House or Senate.

“Government is most effective when it is smaller and more efficient,” Gant said. “I am honored to receive this award, and remain committed to protecting the values and freedoms that have made Tennessee such a great place for residents and businesses to prosper.”

Gant is among 63 state lawmakers who received the Defender of Limited Government Award for having an overall voting record that was at least 80 percent of the time aligned with the limited government principles of the U.S. Constitution.

As part of its analysis, the ILA looked at votes on legislation that addressed a variety issues including strengthening education, enhancing public safety, improving health care access and fiscal responsibility.

The ILA also found that the Tennessee General Assembly was the top state in the nation for increasing public safety and fighting crime. The ranking was based on the nonpartisan organization’s rating system, which provides states and lawmakers with individualized ratings across 10 key policy categories.
