Tennessee Promise 2024/2025 Application Open for High School Seniors

The Tennessee Promise scholarship application opens on Thursday, August 1, 2024, for graduating high school seniors to apply. The last dollar scholarship, first offered to students in 2015, covers tuition and fees “not covered by the federal Pell grant, the HOPE Scholarship, or the Tennessee Student Assistance Award at any of the state’s 13 community colleges or 27 colleges of applied technology“. In addition to those schools, students may also use the scholarship at select Tennessee two-year and four-year colleges and universities towards an associates degree.

Along with the scholarship opportunity, the Tennessee Promise provides mentoring to students guiding them from the application process through to the start of their college career. For eligibility, students are required to submit the application by Friday, November 1, 2024, complete eight hours of community service, complete the FAFSA by Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

In 2022, a little over 200 Tennessee Promise applicants came from seniors at Bolivar Central High School (BCHS) and Middleton High School (MHS) combined. The FAFSA was completed by 74 percent of the applicants from BCHS and 100 percent by the applicants from MHS, with 86 percent from BCHS and 96 percent viewing the mandatory webinar. That resulted in only 64 percent of the applicants from BCHS and 96 percent from MHS completing two of the requirements for the student to receive the scholarship. That left many ineligible by the start of the 2022/2023 college school year.

Seniors interested in applying for the Tennessee Promise scholarship may complete the online application, or contact their high school counselor for more information.
