TISA Act Public Rulemaking Hearing to Be Held

The Tennessee Department of Education invites Tennesseans to provide comments to the proposed rules for the Tennessee Investment in Student Achievement (TISA) Act. The public rulemaking hearing will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. CST at the Ellington Agricultural Center, Ed Jones Auditorium (416 Hogan Road, Nashville, Tennessee 37220). Those interested may attend onsite, as well as virtually through a livestream option.

The Tennessee General Assembly approved the passage of the TISA Act (SB2396/HB2143) on April 28, 2022 and Governor Bill Lee signed it into law on May 2, 2022.

The one billion dollars through the act is additional funding above what K – 12 districts have previously received each year. Every school district in Tennessee will benefit from TISA, with the monies being distributed using a student-based formula. The needs of each individual student, rather than general across the board district funding, will determine how the funds are allocated. Some needs that will be considered are if a student is affected by a disability, whether they live in rural area, or experience poverty.

Those wanting to comment about the proposed rules will be able to speak for three minutes in-person or virtually, time permitting. If you would like to participate with a comment or just attend in-person or online, you may R.S.V.P. through Monday, July 25, 2022.

Public comments on the proposed TISA rules will be accepted through Tuesday, August 2, 2022. You may submit them either by e-mail to Tisa.Rules@tn.gov or USPS to:
