USPS Suspending Services in Honor of President Jimmy Carter

On Thursday, January 9, 2025, the United States Postal Service will be closed for a National Day of Observance honoring President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at the age of 100 years old. All regular mail deliveries, retail services, and administrative office activity will be suspended across the country on Thursday, including those in Hardeman County.

To reduce backlog and ensure commercial services, the USPS will provide limited package delivery services and continue accepting and processing commercial mailers at mail-processing facilities. Regular mail services will resume on Friday, January 10, 2025.

James Earl Carter Jr. was the 39th president of the United States and served from 1977 to 1981.
