During September 22 – 23, 2023, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Hardeman County Youth Council attended the Tennessee State Conference NAACP 77th Annual State Convention. The Youth Council conducted a raffle fundraiser to offset their expenses. Dr. Barbara Fitzhugh-McBride was the winner of a $100 gift card to Walmart.

We want to thank all our donors and contributors who supported our fundraiser to help make it a success. Our National Theme for 2023 is; “Thriving Together”.

Our State Youth and College divisions met for a Townhall Meeting at the LeMoyne-Owen College Little Theater in Memphis, Tennessee. The panelist talked about ways to bridge the age gap between the seniors, youths, and young adults in our various communities.

On Saturday, September 23, 2023, we attended workshops at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel led by renowned social advocate Mr. Jimel Calliste, NAACP Field Organizer Youth and College from our national office in Baltimore Maryland. He emphasized “If you wanna get somewhere fast, go alone!” But, “if you wanna go far, go together!”

We also attended the Vernon Jarrett Youth Awards Luncheon. The keynote speaker was Ms. Alethea Bonello, the Deputy National Field Director of the Black Voters Matter Fund in Atlanta, Georgia. She encouraged the members of the youth and college divisions to “vote” whenever the opportunity arises, because “we have a voice” and “Americans values,” “It’s not what they call you, it’s what you answer to.”
