Watch the Solar Eclipse at the Whiteville Library this Weekend!

On October 14, 2023, an annular solar eclipse will cross North, Central, and South America. Visible in parts of the United States, Mexico, and many countries in South and Central America, millions of people in the Western Hemisphere can experience this eclipse. An annular solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth while it is at its farthest point from Earth. Because the Moon is farther away from Earth, it appears smaller than the Sun and does not completely cover the star.

The Lee Ola Roberts Whiteville Library invites you to come watch the Annular Solar Eclipse on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Bring a picnic and enjoy lunch starting at 11 a.m. and then view the eclipse from the library lawn. Peak eclipse time will be around noon. The Library will provide free solar glasses for viewing. The Lee Ola Roberts Library is located at 140 West Main Street in Whiteville. For more information, call (731) 254-8834.

The next solar eclipse visible in the U.S. will be a total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024.
