Whiteville Elementary School Wins First Game of the Season Proving They are Ready
The Whiteville Elementary School (WES) Lions played their first game of the 2022/2023 season at home on Thursday, October 20, 2022, against the Hornsby Bulldogs (HES) and earned their first win with a score of 59 – 20.
Dennis Bills has coached the boys basketball team at WES for 21 years and is looking forward to the new season. Coach Bills brings years of coaching experience along with other skills that will make a positive impact on the players and their performance.
“I bring communication, motivation, organization, team building, and individual player skill building,” said Bills. “I have a good group of kids that are willing to learn and want to be coached hard.”
The WES Lions are in the Single A Area 19 district and finished their 2021/2022 season in 1st place. Although Coach Bills hopes to have another good season, he does see some challenges, but none that cannot be overcome.
“The main challenge is that we are young,” said Bills. “This will be the first time the players will get significant minutes on the floor.”
Winning the first game of the season is a nice start to building confidence and the Lions are ready for their game tonight, October 24, against Chester County Middle School. Next, they will play an away game against the Middleton Middle School Tigers, one of their rivals, during a mid-day school game on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 11 a.m. and against Bolivar Middle School, another rival, on Monday, November 7, 2022. Congratulations to the Lady Lions who also won their first game of the season on Thursday, October 20, 2022, against HES with a score of 38 – 20.
