Whiteville Library Receives Grant From Dollar General
The Lee Ola Roberts Library in Whiteville was recently selected as a recipient of a Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant for summer reading.
The Foundation, which was established in 1993 by Cal Turner and Cal Turner Jr. to honor Dollar General’s co-founder, JL. Turner, who was a farmer’s son with only a third-grade education, provides grant funding to support literacy and education initiatives serving individuals of all ages.
The Foundation specifically provides funds to nonprofit organizations, schools and libraries within a 15-mile radius of Dollar General locations, in the states in which they operate.
“We are going to use it for incentives, which in our opinion, goes for snacks and crafts for the kids to do, plus just for regular things we are going to give out throughout the summer,” said Glenda Doyle, Director of the Lee Ola Roberts Library.
