“Why Not Here? Why Not Now?”: Community Worship at the Courthouse

The Hardeman County Black History Choir was one of the three groups that led worship through song at the “Why Not Here? Why Not Now?” community worship service.

Hardeman County came out once again to worship together at the Community Worship event that was held in Bolivar at the Courthouse Amphitheater on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, at 6 p.m. The theme for the evening was “Why Not Here? Why Not Now?”

The first community worship { read more } was held in October at the amphitheater. City of Bolivar Mayor Julian McTizic shared the vision of the community worship events as an effort “to bring the people together, believers in Christ as a community, worshipping God under one setting, outside of race”.

Worship music for the evening was led by the First Baptist Church Quartet, Ladies of Mercer Baptist Church, and the Hardeman County Black History Choir. Pastor Jimmy Garrett of Dixie Hills Baptist Church led prayer and Pastor Micheal Rhyan of Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church was the speaker.

“Our community worship is one of my favorite things that our city has going right now. I am proud to work for a mayor who puts first things first. The community support on Tuesday was fantastic,” said Dylan Hill, City of Bolivar Director of Community Development and Tourism. “I can see a desire of unity from our people. Not all communities can say that. The worship was spirit-filled. And to say that Pastor Rhyan had a word is an understatement. Pastor Rhyan not only had a word, but he brought ‘THE Word’.”

Hill continued to share that the one hour community worship events are going to be scheduled quarterly with the next event being in May.

“I pray this continues to grow, and, as it was said last night, I pray we don’t let that one hour together be enough for us,” said Hill. “My prayer is that we strive to unite together and to make His name known a daily habit.”
