Wolf River State Forest Dedication Held at Ames Plantation

Governor Bill Lee was just one of the many guests who attended the Wolf River State Forest Dedication on Friday, March 21, 2025, which was held at Ames Plantation in Grand Junction, Tennessee. The reveal and dedication officially introduced the 5,477 acres park as the 16th state forest of Tennessee.
The program, which began with a light breakfast, included special speakers and later in the afternoon finished with a tour of an area of the Wolf River State Forest.
In December, State Forester Heather Slayton, who was also present at the dedication, shared her excitement about Wolf River State Forest and the benefits of it being added as a state forest.
“We are thrilled to add Wolf River State Forest to our state forest system and are grateful for the support and partnerships that made this acquisition possible,” State Forester Heather Slayton said. “This property holds great historical, cultural, and archeological significance, as well as long-term forest research plots, and exceptional hardwood forestland. Under our management, we will keep this forest as a forest, conserve and steward its extensive natural and cultural resources, facilitate the continuation of research and conservation education at the site, and support the local wood products industry.”
A portion of Ames Plantation, already internationally known as the site for the National Championship for Bird Dogs, is located along the Wolf River and will be part of the state forest. The state forest will provide new public access for passive outdoor recreation activities in the area like hunting, wildlife viewing, hiking, and fishing.
Signage and a few other final details are being completed to Wolf River State Forest, which is expected to open with full access to the public in the next month.
