Bolivar Holds First of Two Community Meetings
The City of Bolivar held the first of two public meetings last Thursday afternoon to discuss community parks and recreation development. The meeting was originally scheduled to be held at the Bolivar Municipal Center, but due to the ice storm it was changed to a Zoom conference call. Only eight people were logged in for the call, which lasted less than eight minutes.
The purpose of these meetings is to discuss the City of Bolivar’s intent to submit an application to the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation for a Local Parks and Recreation Grant (LPRF) and to solicit input from the citizens regarding recreational needs within the City of Bolivar.
Mayor McTizic suggested applying the remainder of the funds intended for revitalization of the Hatchie River Nature Park and the new LPRF grant towards improvements at Sand Beach Lake. He would like to add canoe and kayak rentals, an amphitheater, pavilion, restrooms, and a boat ramp. The estimated cost of these improvements would be around $1.2 million dollars.
Sand Beach Lake is the newest park in the City of Bolivar Parks and Recreation system. The park encompasses a total of 122 acres and the lake itself is approximately 70 acres.
The second and final community meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Bolivar Municipal Building located at 211 North Washington Street, Bolivar, Tennessee 38008. These public meetings can provide the foundation for a community development program for parks designed to enhance the quality of life of every citizen. It is imperative the citizens take part in these meetings. Any person needing special accommodations should contact Mayor McTizic at (731) 658-2020.
