Obituary: Marvin Mills

Marvin Mills, 92, of Middleton, TN entered the gates of Heaven and into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 21, 2026. Marvin was born at home in Lacy, TN on August 4, 1934 to Rufus Tendle Mills and Lola Irene Scott Mills. Marvin is survived by his wife of 71 years, Emily Letitia Vincent Mills and his three children, Larry Marvin Mills (Debbie), Kelvin Scott Mills (Catherine) and Letitia Carol Young (Scott).

He also leaves behind five precious grandchildren, Keith Allen Mills (Aundrea), Erica Leigh Mills Eschbach (Andy), Aubrey Raymond Mills (Chelsea), Sarah Catherine Mills Muller (Zachary) and Austin Scott Mills (Kayelyn) and eight great grandchildren plus one on the way.

Marvin and Emily graduated from Middleton High School in 1955 where they were both voted “Most Attractive” and soon moved to Memphis where they both worked at Sears Crosstown. Sears started Marvin in the lingerie department but as soon as they created their own trucking department, he applied and then drove for Sears his entire career.

Marvin and Emily were charter members of Parkway Village Baptist Church for over 30 years and later moved back to Hardeman County where they were members of First Baptist Church of Bolivar, TN. They traveled extensively around the country with church groups in both churches and often on their own.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Tendle and Lola, and his sister Lois Mills Prince, and brothers Raymond Eugene Mills, Franklin Leroy Mills and George Alton Mills. Visitation will be Friday, August 28 at Shackelford Funeral Home in Middleton, TN at 1:00pm with an 2:00pm service following.

Burial will follow at Reaves Cemetery where Marvin spent many years tending to the grounds. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Reaves Cemetery Fund.
