Drugs and Gun Found, Students and Faculty Cited at Fayette Ware High School
Drugs were discovered at Fayette Ware High School and a staff member was charged as a result of a coordinated investigation by officers from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, 25th Judicial Drug Task Force, West Tennessee Drug Task Force, and the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit.
Officers conducted an exterior and interior search on the grounds of Fayette-Ware High School on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at approximately 8:13 a.m.
Approximately 14 vehicles, 11 of which belonged to student drivers, and three to staff members at Fayette-Ware, were alerted by search dogs during this search.
One juvenile student was cited for a simple possession of Schedule VI on school property. One adult student was cited for a simple possession of Schedule VI on school property. Faculty member Jireh Washington, who was recently named head coach of the Lady Wildcats, was cited for simple possession of Schedule VI on school property, and violation of a Drug Free School Zone. Also, located in the staff member’s vehicle was a brown 9mm handgun.
Additionally, about 12 lockers within the school raised an alert from search dogs, but nothing was found inside.
The operation was conducted as part of an effort to keep Fayette County’s Schools safe and drug free. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has recently worked to reinstate its School Resource Officer program as well as provided instructor training to officers for the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program.
