Death of a Hot Sauce Salesman Auditions to be Held at the Arts Council

Things are getting mighty hot at the Hardeman County Arts Council (HCAC) as it prepares for auditions for its annual dinner theatre with the production of Death of a Hot Sauce Salesman.

The HCAC recently closed its Christmas production of Christmas Belles that was directed by Julie Bell and Marnina Smeltser. Although it was the first time for both women in the role as directors, Bell and Smeltser brought their previous theatre experience and presented a quality production.

Next on the HCAC stage is a production that not only includes dinner, but a murder mystery that will keep the audience guessing as it tries to determine “who dunnit”! The production will be directed by Joyce Byers and Anthony Pulse who last brought murder and mayhem to the HCAC stage with its production of Crab Cakes and Murder. The cast of Death of a Hot Sauce Salesman includes six men and six women.

Synopsis: Prescott Knight, owner of the Hot Knights Genuine Pepper Sauce empire, discovers on the morning of the annual Knight Family Barbecue that someone is trying to kill him.  A family meeting is hastily arranged, and Prescott announces he is changing his will so that the recipe for Hot Knights will pass into the right hands.  Hours later, family members find Prescott dead and the recipe stolen.  Prescott’s family, his lawyer, the housekeeper, and the gardener are all suspects.  With the help of audience members, who have been given clue packets, Judge Titus A. Drumm slowly unravels this spicy comedy filled with zany characters, outrageous lines, and plenty of hot sauce.

The audition dates are Tuesday and Thursday, December 19 and 21, 2023, at 6 p.m. and will be held at the HCAC, 1580 West Market Street in Bolivar. Call (731) 658-2787 (ARTS) for more information. The production dates are Friday and Saturday, February 9 – 10, 2024, with dinner being served at 6 p.m. and the show beginning at 7 p.m.
