NAACP Youth Council Honor Local Veterans

The Hardeman County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Youth Council honored local veterans at a recent monthly meeting. It was one of several ceremonies held throughout the county to show appreciation for the sacrifice and service of area veterans.

The council was pleased to host Ellis Charles Mitchell, Jared Miller, and Reverend Robert Parham.

Ellis Charles Mitchell entered the U.S. Army on October 26, 1967. His record includes Basic Training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; AIT at Fort McClellan (Alabama); Commissioned Officer Training School at Fort Benning (Georgia); and additional training at Fork Polk (now Fort Johnson – Louisiana). He was sent to Vietnam in September 1968 and honorably discharged on August 5, 1969.

Jared Miller served in the military from January 2012 to June 2020. Some of the units he served with were are Combat Logistics Regiment 35, Combat Logistics Regiment 37, and the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group. He was also stationed in Japan, Zimbabwe, and Mexico.

Reverend Robert Parham retired from the U.S. Navy with 20 years of service. He received three Navy Good Conduct Medals and a Navy Commendation Medal. Reverend Parham pastored for 36 years at the Greater Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Bolivar, and is currently retired.

The Hardeman County NAACP Youth Council meets on the second Thursday of each month at 114 West Market Street, Bolivar, 38008, at 5:30 p.m. Rowan Green is the Hardeman County NAACP Youth Council President.
