Middleton High School Class of 2025 graduate Chasney Vue was named the recipient of the St. James Episcopal Church Scholarship for 2025. She was required to write an essay, which discussed the importance of character as well as her scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Chasney received $1,000, which she will use this fall when she attends the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss.).

“I am very grateful for the scholarship, especially coming from my hometown. It feels like my hard work is finally being noticed,” said Chasney, who shared her plans of study and future goals. “I’ll always remember everyone who supported me, and I plan to give back to my community. I will attend Ole Miss for my undergraduate work but will be classified as a sophomore for all the hours I have from Jackson State Community College. After that, I plan to go to law school, either at the University of Memphis or the University of Mississippi.”

Kimberly Paras, clerk of St. James Episcopal Church, presented Chasney with the check and shared with her why she chosen to receive the scholarship.

“Your essay was very well written and overall, your application was outstanding,” said Ms. Paras, who has a bachelor’s degree in journalism, and noted all the applications were wonderful. “You had a great essay about what you want to pursue and the importance of education to you.”

As a first-generation college student, Chasney highly values education and the opportunities which lay ahead as she enters Ole Miss.

“Being first generation is really important to me receiving this scholarship. I have four siblings, so I know my parents are going to be working hard to pay for all of us to go to college,” said Chasney. “Receiving this scholarship will help me contribute in some way.”

Earlier this year, Chasney received two other academic scholarships. One was $1,000 from the Southwest Human Resources Agency School Leadership Scholarship and the one was $500 from Middleton Woman’s Club.
