Whiteville Police Awards Officers for Lifesaving and Traffic Enforcement Efforts

The Whiteville Police Department (WPD) recognized two officers from its department on Monday, January 5, 2026, during the monthly Town of Whiteville board of alderman meeting. Recognized WPD officers were School Resource Officer (S.R.O.) Sergeant Courtney Howell and Corporal Rochard Weaver.

“Overall, I couldn’t ask for a better department. They make me look good,” said Chief Ben Davis. “I have an awesome department, and I get nothing but compliments from everybody in the community about them.”

Sergeant Howell and Corporal Weaver both received the Lifesaving Award for their response to an incident, which occurred in October 2025.

“The person was completely unresponsive, not breathing,” said Chief Davis, who noted the discovery was after a request for a welfare check. “Narcan was administered and they were able to get the person back responsive. Our officers don’t just do traffic control, they are out there saving lives as well.”

Corporal Weaver was awarded the Traffic Enforcement Officer of the Year Award, which he also received in 2024.

“He has set the standard on the highway . . . I expect nothing less from him and those who are following up behind him,” said Chief Davis, who noted Corporal Weaver gave 696 citations. “It is not about the citations. We have very few accidents here inside the city and the majority of our accidents happen on Union Springs Road. I am thankful there have not been any fatalities.”
