Public Comment Period Open for 2026-27 Hunting and Trapping Seasons Proposals

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) presented its recommendations for the 2026-27 hunting and trapping seasons at the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission’s March 5-6, 2026, meeting.

The hunting and trapping season setting process is a year-long process, which includes biological data collection, public input, compilation, and analysis of data (3-and-5-year averages). There were no proposed changes for big game seasons, however the Commission discussed the start date of spring turkey season and are seeking public input. Calendar dates were shared for waterfowl and deer seasons. Wildlife Management Area (WMA) recommendations were presented with only a few changes across the state. Additionally, TWRA announced two flintlock heritage hunts in partnership with TN State Parks.

A public comment period is now open for the 2026-27 hunting and trapping seasons proposals presented by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) at the March 6-7, 2026, meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission (TFWC). The public can provide comments on all proposals through April 2.

To hear the full discussion on each proposal, watch the March meetings on TWRA’s YouTube channel. Visit TWRA’s public notice webpage or email TWRA.huntingcomments@tn.gov to provide comments.

The Commission will vote on the 2026-27 proposals at its April 16-17 meeting, to be held in Knoxville. Once approved, the regulations will take effect on Aug. 1.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is responsible for protecting, managing, and conserving fish and wildlife species for the benefit of Tennesseans and visitors. The Agency also maintains public safety through law enforcement and safety education on waterways.
