Six Whiteville Police Officers Take Oath of Office

Six Whiteville Police Department officers were sworn into office during the Whiteville Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting on November 2, 2026, pledging to uphold the law, protect citizens’ rights and serve the community with integrity.
The officers taking the oath were Jacob Gray, Allen Garland, Jhnous Long, Sherrie Williams-Smith, Courtney Howell and Randy Warren.
The official oath calls on each officer to support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Tennessee and faithfully perform the duties of their office.
As part of that commitment, the officers pledged to uphold federal and state laws while serving Whiteville with “integrity, professionalism, fairness, courage, and respect.”
The oath also emphasizes impartiality, requiring officers to carry out their responsibilities without prejudice, favoritism or discrimination. Each officer promises to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects honor upon the Whiteville Police Department and the law enforcement profession.
Accountability is another central part of the pledge. The oath recognizes that the authority entrusted to law enforcement officers carries a responsibility to protect and serve the public while remaining accountable to the Constitution, the law and the citizens they serve.
The ceremony marked the six officers’ formal commitment to those responsibilities as they serve with the Whiteville Police Department.
