High-Speed Internet Coming to All of Hardeman County

Bolivar Energy Authority and Aeneas announced today a partnership to build and expand a Gigabit fiber network to bring broadband communications to the BEA service area.

Pictured center, l-r: Steven Thorpe (CEO of Aeneas), Representative Ron Gant, Tony Kirk (CEO of Bolivar Energy Authority), Senator Page Walley, and Representative Johnny Shaw addressed the crowd at today’s announcement.

“We conducted surveys throughout the territory, and the response was overwhelming,” said Tony Kirk, President of Bolivar Energy Authority. “The community is starved for reliable and affordable internet service and that’s what we are going to provide.”

With the construction of a 100 percent fiber, high-speed broadband network already underway as of late July 2022, BEA will start to build with the goal of beginning to serve customers by late fall 2022. BEA crews have already started running lines in Bolivar on Russell Road, in the Country Club area, East Bolivar, and across the Hatchie River. Together BEA and Aeneas will expand broadband service to over 15,000 rural homes and businesses in Hardeman County and its surrounding counties.

“Broadband has been the biggest issue for many for the past two years,” said Kirk who took office in January 2020. “Even before that, we had people wanting us to do that. At the time, after looking at the financing, it just was not feasible. Now, this works and we are ready to go.”

Hardeman County is an area where many have considered moving, but have declined due to the lack of high speed Internet. For those already living in the county, having the service now being available is long overdue, but welcome.

“I am excited about the expansion of broadband in rural Hardeman County,” said Hardeman County resident Ginny Davis. “For years, we have struggled with limited service and are looking forward to fast reliable Internet.”

Hardeman County residents interested in receiving broadband Internet from Aeneas are encouraged to sign up at www.fiber.aeneas.com to receive updates about when service will begin in their area. BEA also has a sign-up kiosk in its lobby, and customers may call Aeneas directly at (731) 403-9201 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday to speak with a customer service representative.

BEA and Aeneas expect to provide coverage to the whole county within 24 months. Plans will start at $59.95 per month.
