Amendments to Recently Approved Solar Moratorium to be Discussed Tuesday

According to a public notice released by the Zoning Compliance Office, the Planning Commission intends to discuss options to the Solar Moratorium at their meeting next week.

The Solar Moratorium, which put a twelve month hold on new solar farm permits, was approved by county commissioners at their January meeting. A large crowd was in attendance for a public hearing on the matter. Half a dozen citizens took their turn to speak in support of the Solar Moratorium. Solar representatives and their lawyers were also present and urged the commission to amend the moratorium and exclude those solar farms that are already under contract. Eventually, the commission voted unanimously in favor of the Solar Moratorium as presented.

The options to be discussed next week could include adding amendments that would exempt certain solar projects from the moratorium requirements.

Earlier this week, Solar representatives visited Hardeman County and treated community leaders and citizens to an invitation only dinner at Simon’s in Bolivar. Those in attendance felt the intention of the dinner was solely educational in nature, with open discussion and time for questions and answers.

The Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at the Hardeman County Courthouse, 2nd floor, 100 North Main Street, Bolivar, Tennessee.

Any new options presented by the Planning Commission are required to be voted on by the County Commission before becoming effective.

The Planning Commission meeting agenda includes:
