Area High School Seniors Attend Mandatory Tennessee Promise Meeting
Graduating high school seniors from Bolivar Central High School and Middleton High School met on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at their respective schools for a mandatory Tennessee Promise team meeting that was presented by Matthew Otero with tnAchieves.
Students who applied for the Tennessee Promise are required to attend the team meeting to maintain their eligibility for the last dollar scholarship. Attendees received a tnAchieves student handbook that includes information about the scholarship, participating colleges, important deadlines, and community service hours. Mr. Otero discussed the FAFSA, the importance of meeting the scholarship requirements, and took questions from the students.
Some changes this year are students have the option of being paired or not with a mentor instead of automatically being placed with one. Mentors are people from the community of Hardeman County who volunteer their time to support students through the Tennessee Promise process all the way through to their first day of college. Mr. Otero introduced the mentors and encouraged students to use them for assistance.
BCHS counselor Ellen Fulghum and Mr. Otero stressed the importance of students meeting the requirements of the scholarship as well as not missing deadlines, to prevent becoming ineligible. Due to the parameters of the scholarship, there is no grace for missed deadlines.
If your student missed their mandatory Tennessee Promise meeting that was held in Hardeman County, they will need to submit an excuse form for their continued Tennessee Promise eligibility to be considered.
