Avery and Hannah King: College-Bound Twins Achieve Top 10, Wall of Fame

When twin siblings Avery and Hannah King graduate together from Bolivar Central High School (BCHS) on Friday, May 17, 2024, they will not only celebrate turning the tassel on their high school careers but also being named to the BCHS Top 10 Seniors and the BCHS Wall of Fame 2024. Both accomplishments are ones they are excited to share together.

“It’s super exciting because although our journey and the way we work has been very different, it’s exciting to be able to share it with my twin brother,” said Hannah.

Avery shared much of the same sentiment.

“It is pretty cool getting to share the Top 10 memory and Wall of Fame memory with my sister as we both worked hard for these honors,” said Avery.

Brittani King and Brian King are beyond excited for their children. They both have worked together to ensure their had a good upbringing and knew they are loved.

“It’s such a proud parent moment having both our kids make the Top 10. Watching both our kids achieve something like this is so surreal,” said their parents. “They have worked hard, and we are so proud.”

Hannah and Avery are both quite competitive in just about everything they do. A simple question as to who is the oldest stirs up a bit of controversy. Hannah and Avery are fraternal twins. Depending on who is telling the story, Avery is quick to note that he is the oldest by one day, where Hannah will immediately interject that her brother is only one hour and two minutes older than her, and not one full day.

“The reason our twins argue about the time is because Avery was born at 11:05 p.m. September 25, and Hannah was not born until 12:07 a.m. on September 26,” said Ms. King. “So they may be sharing the Top 10 and Hall of Fame spotlight, but they do not share the same birthday.”

Their parents mentioned other similarities the twins share as being goofy and loving to laugh whether it is together or at each other. She also said they both are very genuine not only in their love for others, but also God. Along with nurturing their children’s faith, Brittani and Brian, have ensured Hannah and Avery understand the importance of getting a good education.

“We tried to instill the importance of education at a young age by always helping them with homework, pushing them to strive for good grades, and holding them accountable daily,” said Ms. King. “Going to college has been a huge conversation in our house since they were big enough to know what it meant.”

Over the years, Hannah and Avery have felt the support from their parents and agree, although their parents wanted them to succeed, there was never any pressure from them. The only thing their parents ever asked was for them to “work hard and do your best”.

“Their best” looked different for how twins Hannah and Avery did their schoolwork. The journey was not smooth for either one of them and it required they take an approach that worked best with their individual personalities and abilities.

“For me, I always had to work super hard because subjects like math and history didn’t come easy,” said Hannah, who needed to find a study method that worked for her. ”It was definitely hard. I struggled with certain subjects and I wear my heart on my sleeve, so I cried a lot because I would feel frustrated that I didn’t understand something. However, it taught me that putting in the hard work will pay off.”

Hannah was able to find a study method that worked well for her and also stopped comparing her grades to those of her peers.

“I will also say to others, don’t worry so much about having a perfect score on everything,” said Hannah.

Avery, who his parents describe as having a “go with the flow attitude”, took a more laid-back approach towards his studies.

“The journey wasn’t easy. It took a lot of effort to make sure I stayed on top of my work and kept my grades up, but it was definitely worth it,” said Avery, who offered a suggestion he followed. “Never let the stress overwhelm you.”

Their approach to their schoolwork and their efforts earned them great rewards with Hannah being ranked number three and Avery being ranked number seven out of 160 BCHS students. Although academics was priority, Hannah and Avery also stressed the importance of enjoying life through the process.

“Get involved in clubs and sports and things that interest you so that when you look back, you have more than just your grades,” said Hannah.

They both were involved in extracurriculars at BCHS that included playing sports. Avery, who will attend Tennessee Tech University and major in electrical engineering, is in his last season of baseball with BCHS. Hannah finished her last season of volleyball earlier this year, but will pick up the game again when she attends Champion Christian College in Hot Springs, Arkansas as the first BCHS Lady Tiger to play on a collegiate level in volleyball. She will major in elementary education and minor in secondary English.

“Hannah and Avery, you did it! Your hard work has paid off and the best is yet to come,” said Ms. King speaking for herself and their father, Brian King. “To say we are blessed to be your parents is a true understatement. You both have brought us so much joy. We are your biggest cheer leaders and cannot wait to see what the next chapter holds for you both. We love you to the moon and back!”
