DEVCO Allocates $394,500 For Bolivar Projects

The Bolivar Downtown Development Corporation (DEVCO) met on Monday, June 19, 2023, and approved several items to further their goal of guiding growth and reinvestment in downtown Bolivar.

The items that were approved at the meeting include:

$21,000 to redo landscaping in the area of the Luez Theater, Simon’s Restaurant, Biscutry Restaurant, and surrounding parking area.

$12,500 for funding fireworks at Bolivar’s Red, White, and Bolivar 4th of July Celebration.

$1,000 to advertise Bolivar’s Red, White, and Bolivar 4th of July Celebration.

$20,000 for funding four (4) Open Air on the Square events.

$22,000 for funding thirty two (32) Music on the Square & Gospel Music on the Square events.

$248,000 for sidewalks, parking, landscaping, and lighting on Highway 125 in the area of the Old Wheeler’s building.

Prior to the scheduled meeting, DEVCO members approved spending an additional $70,000 to fund “Small Town, Big Christmas” in Bolivar, that will be held this Christmas season. Five board members voted in support of the additional $70,000, three board members voted against the additional funding, and one board member did not vote.


In 2007, the Bolivar Downtown Development Corporation (DEVCO) was formed to support the city and county governments in guiding growth and reinvestment in downtown Bolivar. DEVCO is funded through The Courthouse Square Revitalization Act of 2005 which allows Bolivar to capture a portion of the downtown sales tax to fund revitalization projects.
