Hardeman County School Board Extends Director’s Contract, Raises Pay

The Hardeman County School Board voted to extend Director Dr. Christy Smith’s contract for another four years at its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, August 10, 2023. All board members were present for the meeting.

The “Director of Schools Contract” was one of the first items on the agenda for the evening.

In addition to extending the contract through June 2027, the board also approved raising the pay to $130,000 annually.

“We did the [director’s] evaluation about three months ago, [It was a] very positive evaluation,” said Chairman Bobby Henderson. “That’s what our meeting was before here. We had a work session to discuss Dr. Smith’s contract.”

Chairman Henderson then opened the floor for any motions. A motion was made by Terry King to extend Dr. Smith’s contract through June 30, 2027, and increase her salary to $130,000. The motion was seconded by Reverend Jerry Crisp. There was no discussion or questions presented by other board members, who all voted unanimously in favor of the motion.

“We are very glad to have you for another four years,” commented Chairman Henderson after the vote.
