Jackson State Brings Go Green Tour to Area High Schools

The Jackson State Community College Go Green Tour made its way to Hardeman County with a stop last week at Bolivar Central High School (BCHS) and returning this week to Middleton High School (MHS). Both stops are part of a 10-county tour where JSCC is sharing information about its academic programs and giving away scholarships and plenty of swag.
“The purpose of Go Green Tour is to show students in our service area that we are a viable choice for college. We even say THE choice for college,” said Seth Harden, JSCC Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management. “We just want to show everyone how much JSCC has impacted our own lives and, at the same time, let them know the school can impact their lives, too.”
Students were able to visit with JSCC and the University of Tennessee at Martin Jackson representatives who set up tables with information about both schools – academic program offerings, financial aid, and more.
In April 2024, JSSC and the University of Tennessee at Martin (UTM) entered a dual enrollment agreement, which provides a direct pathway for students to transition from JSCC to UTM.
“We have a dual admissions agreement with UTM Jackson. Students can start with Jackson State and then transfer over to UTM Jackson, which is on our campus, and continue on through their bachelor’s degree. That’s why they are on the tour with us,” said Mr. Harden.
The annual tour, which is always a highly anticipated event at both schools, was at BCHS on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, and at MHS on Monday, March 17, 2025. Juniors and seniors from both schools filled their gyms coming empty handed and left with tour swag. At each high school, two students were the winners of scholarships of $500 to JSCC and $500 to UTM Jackson, and another won an iPad.

On schedule for the 2025 Go Green Tour, which started in February and will finish later this month, are high schools in Benton, Chester, Decatur, Gibson, Hardin, Henderson, Madison, McNairy, and Hardeman Counties. All of those are Supporting Postsecondary Access in Rural Counties (SPARC) areas.
“This tour focused on SPARC counties. These are counties designated by the state that are distressed or at risk economically and are a focal point of the state for workforce development,” said Mr. Harden. “We want to show Hardeman County students their low-cost, attainable options to help launch the region out of that category.”
By the end of the Go Green Tour, some of the students across those tour counties will have received $10,000 in scholarships for both JSCC and UTM-Jackson; really cool swag; and all students will have information about opportunities at JSCC and UTM Jackson for obtaining higher education in their futures.
