Local Youth Compete in Shooting Competition at Lone Oaks Farm

The Clays at The University of Tennessee’s Lone Oaks Farm hosted the Tennessee 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Members of 4 – H from across the state competed earlier this year in the spring air rifle, archery, and shotgun jamborees to qualify to participate in the invitational.

The Hardeman County Claydusters Shotgun team qualified seven members with six able to make the event on September 24. CJ Russell, Caleb Sowder, Wes Ross, Hudson Jackson, Jackson Russell and Eli Parsons were the representatives from Hardeman County. Cole Vickers, one of the students who qualified, was unable to attend the invitational.

Shotgun participants were asked to shoot 50 targets in each discipline which included sporting clays, trap, and skeet. CJ Russell (3rd place), Wes Ross (4th place), and Hudson Jackson (6th place) all finished the day in the top 10. The top four scorers from the event are invited to take part in the National 4-H Shooting Sports event next year in Grand Island, Nebraska. Caleb Sowder placed 12th, Eli Parsons placed 17th, and Jackson Russell placed 19th for the group to round out the day.

Highest scorers in each discipline included:

TRAP: Hudson Jackson and Caleb Sowder tied for 4th place with a score of 45/50.

SKEET: Eli Parsons came in 6th place with a score of 43/50.

SPORTING CLAYS: Wes Ross came in 2nd place with a score of 45/50.

The Hardeman County Claydusters extend its gratitude to the parents and family members in attendance, and to the coaches who worked with the group in preparation for the contest and at the event. The coaches include Rob Eady, Jeremy Ross, Jeff Baker, Jody Jackson, Robert Ross, and David Nuckolls.
