The Hardeman County UT/TSU Extension Lunch & Learn series continued Wednesday, August 12, 2026, with Week 7 focusing on Disaster Emergency Preparedness.

Participants welcomed Rita Fleming, M.S., TSU Assistant Professor/Extension Specialist of Health Education, Director of Community Outreach, and Interim Program Leader for Family and Consumer Sciences in the Department of Human Sciences, College of Agriculture.

Fleming shared important information about preparing families for emergencies and disasters. Participants learned about the importance of having an emergency plan, knowing what steps to take when an emergency occurs, and preparing a family emergency bag with essential supplies.

As part of the program, Fleming provided each family with an Emergency Kit to help them get started. Participants were encouraged to use the kit as the beginning of their own family emergency bag and to develop a plan that works for their household.

Being prepared before an emergency occurs can help families respond more calmly and effectively when unexpected situations arise. Fleming encouraged participants to take time now to gather supplies, communicate their emergency plans with family members, and make sure everyone knows what to do.

The Lunch & Learn series continues Wednesday, August 19, at noon at the UT/TSU Extension Office, located at 210 Vildo Road in Bolivar. The Week 8 topic will be Fall Gardening, presented by Mary Stiles.

The Lunch & Learn programs are free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch and join us for this educational series.
