Middleton Community Library to Receive $75,000 Construction Grant

On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett announced, in a written letter to the City of Middleton Mayor Mott, he is reserving state funds for a library construction grant in an amount not to exceed $75,000 for the Middleton Community Library. His decision is in response to an application submitted by the City of Middleton and the Middleton Community Library.

“These funds will support the second phase of the library’s expansion through the construction of a 1,008-square-foot addition dedicated to enhancing the children’s collection, programming, and services. By relocating these services into the new addition, the library will be able to repurpose its current space to better serve patrons of all ages,” shared Secretary Hargett. “State Library and Archives staff have reviewed the application and believe the project is both well-planned and responsive to the needs of your community. We are pleased to provide grant support for this addition, which builds on the $50,000 construction grant awarded in 2021 as part of the library’s initial expansion efforts.”

Secretary Hargett continued, “There is no doubt that libraries serve as critical community institutions, promoting early childhood literacy, supporting students through access to technology, and providing resources that strengthen education and workforce development. With this expansion, Middleton Community Library will be even better positioned to meet the needs of all citizens of Middleton and Hardeman County.”

Secretary Hargett noted the contract will be sent to Ms. Cynthia Scott, Middleton Community Library Director, by the end of the month, and the grant will be issued once the contract has been signed.

“What a pleasure to work with Mayor Mott and the City of Middleton on this big library expansion. I so appreciate Secretary of State Tre Hargett’s support for us,” said State Senator Page Walley.
