Middleton Officials Ask for Public’s Help Following Vandalism, Theft at City Park
City of Middleton officials are asking for the public’s help following multiple incidents of vandalism and theft at the city park, including the recent theft of automatic faucets from the park’s bathrooms.
Alderwoman Ann Baxter said they have worked to provide a safe park for residents of Middleton and surrounding communities. Since renovations were completed, the park has been used by people walking the trails, children enjoying the playground equipment and families gathering for picnics under the awning area.
However, Ms. Baxter says the park has also been the target of repeated vandalism.
Since the renovated park reopened over Easter weekend, a bicycle pump has been stolen and someone attempted to steal the bar used to secure bicycles. This week, automatic faucets were also stolen from the park bathrooms.
According to Ms. Baxter, the faucets were not simply cut or broken off. Instead, they were disassembled in a manner that suggested the person responsible knew how to remove them.
The park and its bathrooms have remained open to accommodate walkers who use the facility at various hours. Because of the continuing problems, however, city officials said they are now considering closing the park at a designated time each day.
City officials are now reviewing surveillance cameras in an effort to determine who may be responsible.
Officials are asking park visitors to remain observant and report anything suspicious they see while using the property.
The city also emphasized that the thefts and vandalism affect more than city government and the city board because the damage impacts everyone who uses the park.
