Ivan Derrell Kennedy (Shorty) ~ May 24, 1963 – October 12, 2023 (age 60)
Ivan Derrell Kennedy (Shorty) was born on May 24, 1963, in Long Branch, New Jersey to Charles E. Marshall, Sr. and Marie R. Kennedy. He departed this life on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at TriStar Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Ivan attended school in Red Banks, New Jersey where he participated in soccer, track, was a member of the band, and served as a water boy for the football team. After graduation, he was employed at a gas station as a mechanic.
On May 20, 1985, Ivan welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Starsha Marie. Shortly after he moved to Tennessee in the mid 90s. He was employed with Darrell Davis Roofing Company, the neighborhood handy man, and most days he could be seen at Henderson/Hardeman County Funeral Services where he volunteered, helping with whatever he could.
Over the years, Ivan impacted the lives of many. He did not meet a stranger and would help anyone. Ivan was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved hanging out with friends and family, and enjoying life.
Ivan was preceded in death by his mother, Marie R. Kennedy; grandmother, Sara Frost; two brothers, Charles Marshall, Jr., and Thomas Kennedy.
Ivan leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Starsha Mallory; two grandsons, Rashun and Ramel Mallory; his father, Charles Eugene Marshall Sr.; six sisters, Cynthia Manjang, Karen Bowles, Shauntay Marshall, Deaunna Marshall, and Rayna Morton, all of Columbus, Ohio, and Ramona Neloms of Florida; four brothers, Brian Marshall, Lamar Marshall, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Devin Kennedy and Eric Kennedy of Florida. A host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Special friends, Brian Pettigrew, Timothy Sanders, AW Phelps Cheryl Randles, Virginia Strickland, and Teresa Williams.
