Obituary: James Franklin Hill

James Franklin Hill ~ September 14, 1935 – October 31, 2023 (age 88)

James Franklin Hill, 88, of Bolivar, departed this life on Tuesday morning, October 31, 2023, at Christian Care Center in Bolivar.  

He was born and reared in Ebenezer-Toone-Silerton area of Hardeman County, the son of the late Tillman Hill, Sr. and Mildred Young Hill. On October 12, 1963, he was united in marriage to Dianne Claunch. Their union lasted for 51 years until her passing on February 25, 2015. Mr. Hill worked in sales for Kopper’s Tie Company supply railroad with crossties for 32 years before retiring in 2000.   

He served our country and state as a member of the Tennessee National Guard for 11 years and was a member of Parrans Chapel Baptist Church. Mr. Hill was active with Dixie Youth Baseball and the Lions Club in Bolivar for 25 years and spent many weekends on the river with his family as they were growing up. Except for a for a short when he lived in St. Louis and worked for McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Company, he lived his entire life in Hardeman County.

Services will be at the Shackelford Funeral Home chapel on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 1 p.m. in Bolivar with burial in the Bolivar Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

He leaves two sons, Randy (Trina) Hill of Bolivar and Jeff (Cris) Hill of Bolivar; two brothers, Tillman (Lois) Hill, Jr. of Bolivar and Jerry (Shirley) Hill of Jackson; five grandchildren, Tyler (Shelby) Hill, Dylan Hill, Trevor (Grace) Hill, Anna Kate (Josh) Perry, and Olivia Hill; and nine great-grandchildren, Tristen, Wyatt, Naomi, Hunter, Cheyenne, Caroline, Harper, Elijah, and Gabriella.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jewel and Jimmy Hill.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or The Alzheimer’s Association.
