Obituary: Johnny Howell

Johnny Howell, 73, departed this life on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Pine Meadows Healthcare Center.
Mr. Howell was born in Bolivar on April 30, 1951, to the late William T. and Eva Freeman Howell. He lived in Memphis from 1970-1991 and was a long-time member of Brints Chapel Baptist Church where he helped open and close the church for each service, distribute bulletins, and manage the heating and cooling settings. Johnny was always looking for a way to help in any situation or setting he found himself in. He enjoyed visiting and talking with friends and family. Among his favorite things was doting on his nieces and nephews, when they were small and giving them rides in his wheelchair. His siblings all describe him as an awesome brother and uncle.
Church services will be held at Brints Chapel Baptist Church on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 2 p.m. with David Howell and Kenny Koeneman officiating. The burial will be in Brints Chapel Cemetery. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar is in charge of the professional arrangements.
Mr. Howell leaves a sister, Marilyn Howell (Joe) of Middleton; two brothers, William G. Howell of Grand Valley Lakes and Danny Howell (Barbara) of Palatine, Illinois. He also is survived by four aunts; two uncles; seven nieces and nephews, Chris Burns (Jennifer), Bryon Burns (Elizabeth), Desi Ball (Joe), Tabi King Fisher (J. C.), Joe Howell, III, Maria Howell and Kayla Howell; and twelve great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his twin brother, Tommy; his sister, Patricia Mae Howell; maternal grandparents, James N. and Adeline Lowe Freeman; and paternal grandparents, William Everette and Lillie Gertrude Sisco Howell.
Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or LeBonheur Children’s Hospital.
