Obituary: Mary Ward Connor Jones

Mary Ward Connor Jones ~ December 15, 1958 – March 29, 2024 (age 65)

Mary Ward Connor Jones passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, in Selmer, Tennessee. She was born on December 15, 1958, in Memphis, Tennessee and lived in Mississippi prior to moving to this area when she was five years old. Mary was a dedicated individual who touched the lives of many through her various roles throughout her life.

Her professional journey led her to work as a supervisor for Maytag and later as a house cleaner. Mary’s strong work ethic and attention to detail were evident in all that she did. She also pursued education and received her teaching certification from UT Martin, showcasing her commitment to continuous learning.

Aside from her work life, Mary was known for her vibrant personality. She had a great love for life and an infectious laugh that could light up any room. Her hobbies included frequent trips to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where she found solace and joy.

Services will be held at Parrans Chapel Baptist Church on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 1 p.m. Visitation will be at the church on April 4, 2024, starting after 11 a.m.  Shackelford Funeral Directors of Bolivar is in charge of professional arrangements.

Mary is predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Elizabeth Kirk Connor, as well as her paternal grandparents, Charles Tipton Connor and Mary Josephine Dunnaway Connor; and maternal grandparents, John Kirk Sr. and Allie Ward LeSuer Kirk. She is also preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Terry Wiggins.

She is survived by her sister, Dorris Marie Connor Wiggins of Whiteville; several cousins; and many friends who will cherish her memory forever.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in her name be sent to Parrans Chapel Baptist Church.
