Obituary: Paul Thompson

Paul Thompson ~ August 22, 1962 – January 4, 2023 (age 60)

Mr. Paul Thompson, 60, of Middleton, passed from this life on Wednesday morning, January 4, 2023, at Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth, Mississippi. Chapel services were at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Middleton on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. with burial in the Roger Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Thompson was born in Jackson, Tennessee on August 22, 1962, the son of the late Bobby Thompson and Jean Childers Thompson, who survives. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1983 from Freed-Hardeman University and his master’s degree from the University of Memphis in 1984. Mr. Thompson married the former Chris Kennedy on June 17, 1983, and was a business entrepreneur. Paul and Chris moved to Middleton in 2016 where he was a member of the Middleton Church of Christ.

He served as president, chairman of the board and board member of the National Little Britches Rodeo Association (NLBRA) and, in his leisure time, enjoyed spending every moment possible with his granddaughter, Kennedy Ann.

In addition to his wife of almost 40 years, he leaves three children, Stephen Paul Thompson, Jr. of Memphis, Spencer Kennedy Thompson of Middleton, and SaraBeth Thompson Sheehan (Hunter), also of Middleton; his mother, Jean Childers Thompson of Memphis; granddaughter, Kennedy Ann Sheehan; his sister, Jeanne Hubbard and her children, Rylee and Ryder Hubbard, of Memphis; his brother, Bruce Thompson, of Memphis; mother-in-law, Barbara Kennedy of Middleton; sister-in-law, Lisa Ray (Kerry Pat) of Paris, Tennessee, and their children, Whitney Thomas (Brandon) and Carson Ray; brother-in-law, Jon Kennedy (Laura) of Middleton and their children, Will and Nathan; sister-in-law, Angie Bath (David) and their children, Anthony Bath, Danny Bath, and Amy Southard (Paul); and a great-niece and great-nephew, Charlotte Jo Thomas and Judah Thomas.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Travis Kennedy. Memorials may be sent to the Middleton Church of Christ, 224 South Main Street, Middleton, Tennessee 38052.
