Obituary: Robert Neal (Hoss) Burnette

Robert Neal (Hoss) Burnette ~ August 17, 1951 – June 24, 2023 (age 71)

Robert Neal (Hoss) Burnette Mr. Burnette passed from this life on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis.

He was born in Memphis, but lived his entire life in Hardeman County. The son of the late Robert Stanton Burnette and Margie Porter Burnette, who survives, he was a 1969 graduate of Grand Junction High School. Mr. Burnette, worked primarily as a heavy equipment operator (his favorite pastime, as well) but, also was employed by Sequentia in Grand Junction for 10 years. He retired, after 15 to 20 years of service, from Glasteel. Mr. Burnette was a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church near Saulsbury and enjoyed spending time talking and visiting with his many friends.

Mr. Burnette leaves his son, Robert Matthew Burnette (Susan) of Owensboro, Kentucky; his mother, Margie Burnette, of Saulsbury; his sister, Lisa Burnette Hunsucker (David), of Middleton; three brothers, Glen “Slick” Burnette (Tammy), Mark Burnette (Carol) and, Paul Burnette, all of Saulsbury; a sister-in-law, Sandy Burnette of Middleton; step-grandchildren, Morgan and Vivianne Shreve; and long-time companion, Debbie Gilmer, of Saulsbury. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Denise Mercer Burnette; and three brothers, Larry Wayne, Ronnie Carl, and Kenneth Ray Burnette.

Funeral services will be held at Shackelford’s chapel in Bolivar on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 1 p.m. with burial at West Memorial Cemetery in Saulsbury.
