Sarah Ruth Davis Stanley ~ August 16, 1928 – October 8, 2023 (age 95)
Sarah Ruth Davis Stanley, age 95, of Memphis, formerly of Middleton, and a loving homemaker, passed away on October 8, 2023, at the Saint Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. She was born on August 16, 1928, in Middleton, Tennessee, to Andrew Jackson Davis and Anna Wardie Pernell Davis.
Sarah had a varied and fulfilling career. She worked for 20 years and retired from the IRS at the age of 68. Additionally, she had the opportunity to work with RCA and owned a dairy barn in Middleton. Sarah approached her work with dedication and professionalism throughout her career.
While Sarah was accomplished in her professional life, she found immense joy in her personal interests and hobbies. Cooking and canning were passions that brought her great pleasure. Her family and friends were fortunate recipients of her culinary skills, especially her famous sweet tea. Traveling, reading, and working on crossword puzzles were also activities that Sarah enjoyed immensely. However, above all else, Sarah cherished spending time with her family and church family.
One of Sarah’s proudest accomplishments was being the oldest member at Elliston Baptist Church in Memphis. Her faith was an integral part of her life, providing strength and guidance through both happy and challenging times.
Services will be at the Shackelford Funeral Home chapel on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 2 p.m. in Middleton with burial in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery near Walnut, Mississippi.
Sarah’s memory will be forever treasured by her surviving family members and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Stanley Hall (Ronnie) of Memphis; son, Phillip “Phil” Stanley of Memphis; was a ‘bonus’ mom for Melody Hewitt (Shane) and Kerstine Hancock; nephew, Andy Davis Jr of New Albany, Mississippi; niece, Naomi Pannell of Cotton Plant, Mississippi; as well as her beloved ‘furbabies’, Angel, Gypsy, Misty, Sunni, and France.
Sarah’s legacy will live on through the memories shared by those who knew and loved her. Her kind and caring nature, her dedication to family and faith, and her unwavering love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her. Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to Elliston Baptist Church, 4179 Ellison Road, Memphis, Tennessee 38111.
