Obituary: Vernon Ray Glover
Vernon Ray Glover, age 85, resident of Somerville, Tennessee and husband of the late Bessie Charlene Culver Glover, departed this life Monday afternoon, September 9, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Vernon Ray was born April 6, 1939, in Fayette County, the son of the late Lem Mark Glover and Maggie Helen Adair Glover. He graduated from Fayette County High School and served in the United States Army Reserves. He was married July 23, 1960, to Bessie Charlene Culver Glover who preceded him in death on December 14, 2022, after 62 years of marriage.
Mr. Glover was a member of Williston Methodist Church and was very active in church work. He was employed with the Fayette County School Board in the Maintenance Department for the Fayette County Bus Garage for many years before his retirement. Mr. Glover was also a general mechanic and enjoyed farming and gardening.
Mr. Glover is survived by three sons, Donnie Glenn Glover (Tammy) of Somerville, Tennessee, Ronnie Lynn Glover (Sandy) of Oakland, Tennessee, and Steven Wray “Steve” Glover (Shanna) of Toone, Tennessee; two sisters, Edna Denniston (Ed) of Somerville, Tennessee and Christine Jackson of Huntingdon, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Ronnie Glover, Jr. of Oakland, Tennessee, Cody Glover (Kirsten) of Oakland, Tennessee, Hunter Glover of Somerville, Tennessee, Patrick Glover of Somerville, Tennessee, Tess Westfield (Patrick) of Arvada, Colorado, Shane Glover (Haley) of Collierville, Tennessee, and Coleman Glover of Toone, Tennessee; and three great-grandchildren, Oakley Glover, Paisley Glover and Harper Glover, all of Somerville, Tennessee.
A visitation for Mr. Glover will be held at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Funeral services will be held at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 12 p.m. with Brother Matt Boatwright of Parrans Chapel Baptist Church in Bolivar, Tennessee, officiating. He will be assisted by Brother Jay Wells of Williston Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Somerville City Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Ronnie Glover, Jr., Cody Glover, Hunter Glover, Patrick Glover, Shane Glover, Coleman Glover, and Tess Westfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association – Tennessee Chapter, 1801 Westend Avenue, Nashville, Tennessee 37203 in memory of Vernon Glover.
